Why grape juice and not wine?
In the 1900s, Methodists didn't want recovering alcoholics to be tempted by communion wine. Matthew Welch develped Welch's grape juice as a substitute to wine.
PK, How did the ability for everyone at worship in the Methodist Church be able to partake in communion originate?
John Wesley said "Grace for all, grace in all." There isn't a moment we aren't recipients of God's grace, so all are welcome at the communion table.
