Italians love their families but many left Italy for a better life. My husband's great grandad came here 150 years ago from Liguria.
Italian ice cream shops are called gelateria and sell so many different flavours. There's one called "Zuppa Inglese" and it tastes like trifle!
People walk out in the evenings for a "passegiata" . Wearing smart clothes, they meet their friends and chat and walk about.
We visited the Amalfi Coast: Many of the rural locals didn't/wouldn't speak English; Beautiful countryside; scary cliff-faces beside the roads, great food!
We went to Tuscany. Very hot in summer with lots of wine growing. Can you find out the names of the main cities in the region?

The Italian lakes are very beautiful and popular for holidays. Around the lakes are small towns and villages and people use boats to travel between them.

I once went to Venice and didnt realise there would be so many mosquitos = if you every go make sure you take insect repellent!

The leaning tower of Pisa is amazing. The lean on it is so bad that you wonder how it could possible stay up. It's almost like your eyes are tricking you!
All Italians are very competitive. Years ago each town ruled itself and there were wars between towns. Perhaps they now play footie instead of fighting!
My father-in-law, aged 90 whose mum was born in Italy and his grandad too, always supports Italy against England even now! His main team is Parma.
A range of mountains called the Apennines runs the length of Italy. There is a mountain range in England with a similar name. Can you find out what it is ?
Italians eat a lot of pasta. There are different shapes for different sauces. Perhaps you can find out some of the names of the different types of pasta?

In Italy people speak Italian but also they talk in dialects understood by people from their area. There are lots of dialects and they are hard to understand!
Italian people are often bilingual depending on where they live. Italians who live near the French border speak French and Italian for example.
Our cousins who come from Liguria have lived in the UK for 40 years but still speak the dialect from their own village when they are together.
