Why do you set homework?
How important is it? for you? for students?
Do sts do it?
- to make sts work outside class & it´s expected fom me by school - not THAT important: an extra opp to learn - sts expect to get it - always the same do/don´t
to provide more opportunities for sts to be exposed to the language and for consolidation purposes; class time can be more for speaking activities
-H/w can allow reflection on materials taught, or it can allow interaction & collaboration outside class.
- I'd say it's important.
- Mostly. Depends on task.
To much can be a turn off for students that are already overworked - can make them hate the subject.
Right amount can depend on social context and expectations
I set homework for sts. to consolidate what they learn in class. We devote class time to speaking, listening and interaction.
To allow for consolidation & teacher-free experimentation with language (mostly written). I try to share this perspective with sts and hope they understand this
I set (optional) homework to consolidate what we've done in class & prep 4 next lesson (via my site) Not all s's do it, but ones who do make better progress
I call "it" pre- tasks, post- tasks and optional tasks... the words "home" and "work" clash against each other - one refering to relaxation, the other not. :)
I set HW 2 give SS + opport. 2 b in contact with the language being studied in class w/o me & at another moment, 2 consolidate & check their ability to use L2.
I think it is important, but I think it only works if SS feel it is important, if they feel it works. I'd say SS do it 70% of the time in average.
Because school policy says we have to give homework every Friday! But apart from that, usually as a preview of the next lesson, like a pre-pre-task :)
I usually set homework tasks as a consolidation of topics focussed on in class. It's strange that whenever I make a task "optional" I get a lot of responses.
I never called it homework, it was usually a notecard so they could write what they learned and what they still had a question about.
Parents at our school LOVE homework! I do not-I believe in differentiation, if a student needs help, an engaging homework activity can be a benefit.
I think homework should be differentiated. It all depends on the kids.
Whatever Hw is called it has to be tailor-made to the Ss' needs and capabilities. It doesn't have to be demanding but inspiring!
Homework is expected at my school. The teachers I work with all want to give homework so as part of the team I have to.
I thin kit helps students consolidate and helps teachers see if they need to clarify
I don't think HW is very useful unless the SS really want it. I usually mention it at the beginning of the course and gauge the reaction and go from there
